Five minutes with… Danielle Williams

I’m passionate about the earth and sustainability because I was fortunate enough to have grandparents who lived on land where they grew vegetables, had a huge orchard and kept some animals. Every Sunday we would go and get all of our fruit, vegetables, eggs and sometimes meat too. My early childhood was spent climbing fig trees, picking food straight out of the garden and watching how it was prepared. The smells and tastes of being so intimately involved with your food at the source always stay with you. You learn by osmosis at that age, and watching my family living in harmony with nature had a profound influence on me. Now I find myself wanting my children to experience that same freedom and those same simple pleasures that I had as a child by living close to nature.
I love that my job allows me to practise my beliefs in sustainability both at work and at home. Every day at Jurlique, I make decisions that will impact the environment, whether it be choosing environmentally friendly paper for printing training resources, participating in company projects to raise environmental awareness or choosing to invest in organic food for my family. Only the other day I was on a tour at our biodynamic farm, educating one of our key Stockist Account teams on the benefits of using biodynamic herbs in our skin care.
Jurlique’s philosophy around natural skin care is really about what’s best for you, not just for today and tomorrow but for years to come. It’s about maximising the benefits for your skin with the environment in mind. By caring for the health, vitality and longevity of our skin with natural skin care we are doing exactly the same thing for the earth. It’s also about connection. Skin care is something we take with us everywhere we go – at home, when we are out and when we travel. Life can be stressful and staying grounded helps us to re-balance. It’s really special to be able to use a Jurlique product anywhere, anytime and know that the goodness and those aromas that you experience are just like being at our biodynamic* farm smelling roses, picking Calendula or helping to do something that you know is enriching the earth.
My top eco-tip is to try nude food! Buy local or grow your own veggies, and enjoy the flavour of food in its purest form. Choosing to eat organic and local is very important. Not only is it good for you, it’s a great way to reduce our carbon footprint due to reduced pesticides and food travel time. Our family love the community atmosphere of visiting our local farmers market on a Saturday morning. It’s important for children to understand where their food comes from and the importance of making responsible choices with how you spend money on food. We grow our own herbs, tomatoes and strawberries in summer and the taste difference is out of this world!
My favourite Jurlique product is… an even tie between my two all-time favourites: the Rosewater Balancing Mist and the Herbal Recovery Advanced Serum. I love them both!
